Organ donation- why doesn't everyone do it? It's simple, (relatively) pain free and guess what? You can't take your old body into the next life. Besides, why would you want to? It failed you pretty miserably if you're DEAD!
Tonight I watched a documentary on PBS following Rogue Wave's drummer Patrick Spurgeon. He was born with just one kidney which started to fail him during his junior year of high school. He received a kidney transplant during this time but, unfortunately, this kidney fails him and at the age of 41 his dreams of touring with Rogue Wave are starting to fade fast as the very real possibility of staying put and living on dialysis becomes more and more likely. Luckily, a match is made in the ta da! nick of time and Patrick Spurgeon is able to continue his life as usual.
The irony? The kidney donor died the day he got his driver's license- he checked yes where it asks the seemingly simple question, Organ Donor? If he hadn't where would Patrick Spurgeon be? To all that say no, hold on to that body that isn't doing you any good, what happens to all those people who could make good use of your otherwise useless body?
Interested? Maybe you could be in some kick-ass drummer's body!
You can donate your eyes, too.

Santacon
This December Maddie and I are traveling up to NYC. The main purpose of the trip is for her to see her boo and for me to make Julian Dorio my boo. It's pretty simple actually.
Lucky for us Santarchy will be held in NYC during our visit. The mission: Santa Claus, modified. Loads of New Yorkers will be dressing up like Santa Claus and romping about the city. Delightful! One can dress up as:
"a Santasaurus, Candy-cane, a Reindeer, a Chanukah Chicken, a goddamn latke, Stewardess Santa, Knight Rider Santa, Crusty Peace Punk Santa, the occasional Legless Reindeer, Chanukah Squirrel, Emo-Elf, or the Santichrist."
Let the imagination take over and let Santa Claus pervade. I think the take Brandon, Madeline, and I will have on Santa Claus is his polygamist side. Santa Claus and his two Missus.
Let the fun begin.

Life with Deer
There's just something so right about having to pass twenty deer just to make it to somewhere you can lay your head for the night.
I'm just saying.
This week has been a clusterfuck of emotions. Honestly. I let some things fester, the shit hit the fan and the result was the temper tantrum of a two year old that arrived about sixteen years late. Fear not, positive things have come about. Growth and change. Positive modifications in life and mood.
Needing an escape from life in Norfolk for a few days I naturally invited myself over to Madeline's lovely home at Sweet Briar. So, on four hours of sleep I drove the four hours to visit her. By chance a friend had recently given me a mix consisting mainly of Shins songs and I found myself listening to "Australia" repeatedly on the drive up. Beautiful song; poignant and cutting.
"We come in doing cartwheels,
We all crawl out by ourselves."
We are given a limited amount of time to enjoy ourselves in this life, don't waste that time on foolish matters. So often I focus on the nitty gritty aspects of life that I just end up making myself miserable. Who wants that?
This change is good. Perfect weather to start it out with. Four hours of driving with the windows down and the tunes up. Much needed time with my sister and lots of giggles with her (and my new) amazing friends. Corny movies and junk food. I could get used to this.

From Here To Eternity
Sometimes life is like one big "WTF?!"
A woman died at the Naro tonight.
First wtf?!
The movie stops, lights come on. Three minutes left in the movie. Paramedics take the woman and move out. What does Thom do? Call Larry and start the movie on up again. Really? Really?!! Come on people! I don't care if I sound old fashioned but is nothing sacred anymore? It's a freaking movie. Have some respect and just go home.
Second wtf?!
Overheard the police talking to the people she came with. They didn't even know her sons names or even the most basic information about her. How does this happen? You get old and people just don't care. Everyone becomes so separated and all connections are lost.
Third and final wtf?!
Finally got out of there. Hopped into my car and turned on the tunes. First lyrics that play? "My heart is beating like a jungle drum." The woman died of cardiac arrest.
Just another day in the life.
